It is estimated volunteers contribute in excess $8 million dollars a year in volunteer time administering fisheries related programs in Nova Scotia. Fortunately, the Association has secured expertise in providing scientific advice on program design and implementation. This advice enables the Association to wisely and efficiently allocate resources to ensure project goals are accomplished. The NSSA, like our affiliate associations, is a non-profit, volunteer organization. With sound scientific advice readily available, our volunteers are able to employ their enthusiasm and commitment in carrying out streamside programs that benefit salmon and trout. Funding for our programs is secured through our annual fund raising dinner hosted in Halifax and through partnership with various levels of governments and funding agencies. In most cases, the Association is challenged to match, dollar for dollar through in-kind contributions, monies received from both government and non-government funding sources. We are often able to deliver and even more enthusiastic 3 to 1 ratio of return, making those programs an enviable model of success in public/provate partnerships.
If you would like to help support our efforts, either financially or as a volunteer, contact us. Help us help the fish.
