Guest Speaker – Dr. Bruce Tufts Topic - The science of Catch and Release and the Effect of Taking Fish out of Water. Bio: Dr Bruce Tufts, PhD’88, recipient of the 2005 Alumni Teaching Award at Queen’s University and the 2005 Public Awareness Award from the Canadian Society of Zoologists. Earlier in his career, Bruce also received the 1998 Stevenson Award, which recognizes Canada’s most promising young aquatic scientists, at the Canadian Conference for Fisheries Research. Bruce is a comparative animal physiologist whose research studies how animals work and the evolutionary history of physiological adaptations in different animal groups. In addition to his basic research program in animal physiology, Bruce’s lab has also become involved in many different conservation issues related to fisheries. He is the author of over a hundred publications on a broad range of subjects including animal physiology and fisheries biology, as well as conservation issues in the popular press. His research has also been highlighted in venues such as the Globe and Mail, CBC Radio, National television and videos and DVDs for the general public.
Please Note** There is no registration fee but proof of up to date NSSA membership or membership in an NSSA Affiliate is required to participate.
RESOLUTIONS: If you have a resolution to bring forward to the AGM we need to have it 2 weeks in advance of the meeting and resolutions may be sent to Carl Purcell at c.purcell@ns.sympatico.ca. You will be called upon to present the resolution at the AGM.
Following the AGM session, members are encouraged to discuss issues of interest with members of the Executive.
Please make an effort to come out and hear about the many activities of the Association in 2009.
